Each track is inspired by a different piece (or pieces) of work by Luke, and seeks to sonically mirror the overall emotive response I have to each piece (as well as attempting to thematically tether sonic elements to visual elements, and develop narratives arising from the content of the pieces)
Whether I have successfully done this or not I leave you to decide
Track one is based on
lukeoram.com/in-this-place-i-shall-remain/ and seeks to tell the tale of a screaming skull found in a mansion earmarked for development; vocals/lyrics are a to and fro between an exorcist and the spirit of the skull. It's all set in the 30s and I wanted to include some nice smoky jazz to try to evoke the dim/dark feel of the piece/the period.
Track two is based on
lukeoram.com/tomb-surgeon/ and
lukeoram.com/lords-ii-grave-realm/ (both of which are album covers Luke made for others; I have heard neither album). I constructed a narrative focussing on some sort of metaphysical 'drug' which transports consciousness to an alternate realm, and the usage of this on an individual resulting in consciousness transportation to a plane/realm in which hideous creatures open a portal which fills with blood/results in the death of the travellers consciousness. It's a bit of a batshit concept, and one I'm inclined to revisit in the future. Musically the neon colours made my brain swarm with thrash and NES based ideas- the dark/otherworldly aspect of the other plane made me want to explore some more esoteric/slightly earthier tones.
Track three takes it's inspiration from this
lukeoram.com/jenny-greenteeth/ and was originally written for the rather excellent DB and their Strange and Unusual sounds Zine/compilation (and was the instigation of this EP/Demo). I wanted it to evoke the sludge and slime of the image, as well as the beauty which I found in the upper portion of the image- the slow hulking riff is meant to mirror the sense of movement in the rather terrifying Ms Greenteeth. I wanted to use some off key/strange clean vocals towards the end of the track to mirror the idea that something about the creature is strangely alluring, lulling folks (and I was specifically thinking children here) into the waterways. In truth I'm not happy with them, I think they're just a little too out of key etc and if I was going to work these tracks up into something more I'd definitely redo them- as it is I desperately just wanted to get some stuff out ahead of the first full length (which I need to finish) so I'm presenting the track in this state.
Overall I'd say this EP is on the heavier side of what I've been attempting with this project- it's perhaps less esoteric than what I have in the pipeline, but I hope it acts as a nice introduction to what Grotesque Misalignment is to me; namely, a marrying of the sensibilities of earlier progressive music and an uncompromising metallic palette.
All tracks were mixed by the insanely wonderful David Gupta, of World Eaters

I want to thank a boat load of people for being incredibly inspiring, kind, and helpful- this includes Garry from Cara Neir
caraneir.bandcamp.com, Tom from Wallowing
wallowingnoise.bandcamp.com, Luke himself (what a legend), David from World Eaters and DB
euphoriadic.bandcamp.com.
Lastly (but only because my brain has stopped working) I want to thank Jason from void witch... another unbelievably excellent guy who has helped me a shit tonne, as well as just being an all around legend.

The name of the EP demo is a word I made up- I was rolling around the idea that something is preternatural with other aspects of world building/creating abstracted worlds- and this stuck.
